Repsol and Fiat have signed a collaboration agreement to promote sales of autogas vehicles in Portugal. The Agreement was signed by Antonio Valcarcel, Repsol Gas Portugal Chief Executive Office and Fiat Country Manager, Pedro Serrador.
Repsol is currently the leading distributor of autogas on the Iberian Peninsula, with 50 retail stations in Portugal alone, and FIAT is a European leader in the commercialization of autogas vehicles and has extensive experience particularly in in Italy, where more than 1.7 million vehicles currently run on autogas.
Interest in autogas is growing in Portugal due to recognition of its environmental and economic advantages – it is 40% cheaper than conventional fuels and offers savings on CO2 and air pollution. Furthermore, legislation that has recently come into effect which lifts an outdated and unnecessary ban on Autogas cars in underground parking areas, has made the fuel even more attractive to the consumer.
As of 2012, there are currently around 45,000 autogas cars in Portugal – a 10% increase since 2011.
